Rykr Steel Launches An App
Rykr Steel is launching an app that can be of great use to anyone in the steel industry. Our app has multiple notifications that can be set to let the user know when the price of raw material and coiled steel dips below what you might be paying currently. Our app streams the stock market pricing on steel, foreign and domestic, in real time. This keeps the user up to date every minute of the day on what effects the business that were in. The Rykr Steel app also has a competition site tracker. You can enter the url's of competitors websites and our app will extract the information you want to keep your eye on and deliver it to you in the format most useful to you. Now instead of visiting multiple competitors websites hunting for the information you want to keep up on, you can just open the app and check your feed. This allows you to spend more time on what matters. We highly recommend you download this app and give it a try. This app is a form of advertising so it costs nothing. Visit our homepage to download today!
This app would not have been possible a year ago. I took a social media marketing course at CVTC in eau Clair, Wi. I feel that was one of the most eye opening experiences in my higher education today. I learned how to use all the staples of social media. BlogSpot, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Pintrest, and a few others. I would recommend using all of these outlets while advertising a business. The multi-media strategy does work. I have seen it first hand and I can't stress enough how important this is to a business in todays world. Reaching potential customers used to require an advertisement of some sort that would preferably be seen by your targeted audience. This required a company to spend money on a billboard or a magazine ad space which required someone to buy that magazine or drive by that billboard. Now we can reach those customers on their mobile device with out spending a dime. These ads can also be constantly updated at anytime for no cost. This is amazing.
When I started this class I was a bit worried as I don't use much social media besides Facebook. The time it took me to accomplish 1 blog, 10 tweets, 4 Instagram photos and 5 Facebook posts was embarrassing. I now can do it properly with-in a respectable time and I am proud of my work. I can also take a picture and incorporate text and apply filters to that image when needed. I now like sitting down to do my social media homework. I will be using what I learned in this class as much as if not more than any other thing I learned at CVTC.

Rykr Steel &Trada Art Studio Present's
Rykr Steel and Trada Art studios are working together on a
community project to serve the environment and entertain the community, as well
as provide some creative and useful art. A contest will be held for the most
creative lawn furniture/art made from scrap steel provided by Rykr Steels
recycling lot. Here are the details of the contest:
The purpose of the contest is to make steel or metal lawn
furniture and or art that can be used in a safe and practical matter. Rykr
Steel noticed that the community was dropping off a lot of bigger steel and
metal items at the recycling lot we opened last month. The guys from Trada Art studios
walked thru the recycling lot and fabricated a complete lawn furniture set out
of old gearboxes and steel frames. We thought this was a great way to recycle
and reuse some of these items. By holding a contest we can spread the word and
promote this kind of innovative recycling and create useful lawn equipment just
in time for summer.
The recycling contest will begin on April 9th and
go through the 23rd. We ask that you be at least 18 years old to
enter on your own, unless signed up with a parent or guardian. You can work in
teams of up to 4. Ryker steel will also provide a cutting torch, angle grinder, and mig
welder at the recycling yard. You can also use/bring your own tools if desired.
During this time the recycling yard will remain open 24 hours to the contest
participants. The voting will be conducted on Sunday, April 24th.
Sunday, April 24th voting will be held and your
pieces must be a Trada Art Studios by Noon. The judging will be held by the
community. Each visitor will be given a ballot to turn in when they leave. Any
registered team member cannot vote. We will announce the winner Monday via
phone call and the winner’s name and art pieces will be displayed on the
websites of Ryker Steel and Trada Art Studios. Rykr Steel is giving away an all-inclusive
2 night stay at Turtle Lake Hotel and Casino. Food and Drink included. Trada
Art Studio is also giving a way prizes! Visit their blog or follow them on Facebook or their blog
for more details.

Recent Happenings
This week Rykr Steel wants to tell you about some of the new things we are doing to reach out to the community as well as the steel industry. What we did was a combined effort of our existing abilities and new ventures that our companies invested in.
These next 2 months will see the new standard in production at Rykr Steel. We opened the new hot coil bay a month early and started offering free shipping to select customers. This new hot coil bay will serve in supplying the west coast companies we were previously unable to supply. It will also cut lag times on delivery's we currently make here in the mid-west. Investments in new equipment and technology now allows us to offer punching and pemstudding onsite keeping the production process streamlined and saving our customers time and money.
In an effort to give back to the community we are offering a few services and hosting a charity drive. A free recycling dumpster open to the public 24 hours a day will be placed in our employee parking lot for any and all of your metal items in need of getting rid of. A blood drive for the Red Cross will be held this month on the 13th. Rykr Steel will also be releasing a podcast every month starting Sunday. Follow Rykr Steel on Instagram for steel info.

Blood and Steel
The World Steel Association has said that steel is a integral part of the circular economy promoting zero waste, reuse of resources and recycling, this in return helps build a sustainable future. Steel also helps people in times of natural disasters; earthquakes, storms, and flooding, and other catastrophes are mitigated by steel productions. Like steal, blood is also 100% renewable. Both blood and steel products can be recycled repeatedly without losing strength. According to the Red Cross just one pint of blood can save up to 3 lives and that every two seconds there is a person needing a blood transfusion...Did you also know that only 38% of the population is eligible to donate blood?! Both steel and blood, although two different topics are both positive life changing resources.
Because March is Red Cross Month, Rykr Steel would like to announce that we will be sponsoring a Red Cross Blood Drive for the Chippewa Valley and surrounding areas on Sunday March 13th from noon to 5pm. Free bottled water and snacks will be provided. The first 25 people to participate in the drive will be given a free coupon booklet for businesses in the Chippewa Valley with up to $300 in savings! So be a part of that 38% and come out to support the community and the people in it.
*If you're unable to make it to any of our drives out here at Rykr Steel, but would still like to volunteer or participate, here are some other locations and dates of local blood drives near by.*

Tinsel Strength Measurement Technology
In the past Tinsel Strength was measured with limited technology and equipment. This gave limited results. The process of finding out if a metal staircase could withstand a 300lb person with a 40lb backpack would consist of taking a sample piece of that steel and pressing it with a measuring piston until it failed. Would it surprise you that this type of testing is still being used today? This test is done over and over to different thicknesses of metals to create a graph or chart which is then used to create an estimation table. An uninitiated metal fabricator can use this for their manufacturing standard. Rykr Steel has adapted to the times and needs of our industry. With over 200 years plus of combined initiated Steel workers and 50 years plus in education in metallurgy, Rykr Steel is once again setting the standard in the metal fabrication industry. Here at Rykr steel there is no out sourcing to other engineering companies for Tinsel Strength testing or capacity therefore cutting the overall manufacturing cost. We have invested in the latest equipment and technology education enabling us to cut costs in material while maintaining the greatest standard. This brings me back to those steps that needed to support a 300lb person with a 40lb backpack. Where the U.S. Military was once using 3/8" steel in the standard step side for their wheel based vehicles, those same steps are now made from 1/4" Aluminum. This cut the manufacturing cost and improved the performance of the vehicle because of the lighter metal. This was all due to the investment in Tinsel Strength Technology, in which Rykr Steel stands alone in the area and its research and development. For more information on tensile strength visit our sister company Rolled Alloys.

Limited Drawl Reduction
Rykr Steel is proud to pronounce its very first paten on heat treated steel. The process we have developed enables steel as thin as 1/2" to 7/8" to have a limited drawl reduction within a .020 tolerance. This allows Rykr Steel to produce forms with unprecedented results in standards. The benefits of this process also carries over into regular bends done with 7/8" or less blanks. We are setting the standard in the industry. Rykr Steel is currently working on 3 methods for improving drawl reduction in Stainless Steel as well as Aluminum. As we enter the new year we join the other companies innovating their industries through research and development.
