Blood and Steel

The World Steel Association has said that steel is a integral part of the circular economy promoting zero waste, reuse of resources and recycling, this in return helps build a sustainable future. Steel also helps people in times of natural disasters; earthquakes, storms, and flooding, and other catastrophes are mitigated by steel productions. Like steal, blood is also 100% renewable. Both blood and steel products can be recycled repeatedly without losing strength. According to the Red Cross just one pint of blood can save up to 3 lives and that every two seconds there is a person needing a blood transfusion...Did you also know that only 38% of the population is eligible to donate blood?! Both steel and blood, although two different topics are both positive life changing resources.

Because March is Red Cross Month, Rykr Steel would like to announce that we will be sponsoring a Red Cross Blood Drive for the Chippewa Valley and surrounding areas on Sunday March 13th from noon to 5pm. Free bottled water and snacks will be provided. The first 25 people to participate in the drive will be given a free coupon booklet for businesses in the Chippewa Valley with up to $300 in savings! So be a part of that 38% and come out to support the community and the people in it.

*If you're unable to make it to any of our drives out here at Rykr Steel, but would still like to volunteer or participate, here are some other locations and dates of local blood drives near by.*

Tinsel Strength Measurement Technology

In the past Tinsel Strength was measured with limited technology and equipment. This gave limited results. The process of finding out if a metal staircase could withstand a 300lb person with a 40lb backpack would consist of taking a sample piece of that steel and pressing it with a measuring piston until it failed. Would it surprise you that this type of testing is still being used today? This test is done over and over to different thicknesses of metals to create a graph or chart which is then used to create an estimation table. An uninitiated metal fabricator can use this for their manufacturing standard. Rykr Steel has adapted to the times and needs of our industry. With over 200 years plus of combined initiated Steel workers and 50 years plus in education in metallurgy, Rykr Steel is once again setting the standard in the metal fabrication industry. Here at Rykr steel there is no out sourcing to other engineering companies for Tinsel Strength testing or capacity therefore cutting the overall manufacturing cost. We have invested in the latest equipment and technology education enabling us to cut costs in material while maintaining the greatest standard. This brings me back to those steps that needed to support a 300lb person with a 40lb backpack. Where the U.S. Military was once using 3/8" steel in the standard step side for their wheel based vehicles, those same steps are now made from 1/4" Aluminum. This cut the manufacturing cost and improved the performance of the vehicle because of the lighter metal. This was all due to the investment in Tinsel Strength Technology, in which Rykr Steel stands alone in the area and its research and development. For more information on tensile strength visit our sister company Rolled Alloys.

Limited Drawl Reduction

Rykr Steel is proud to pronounce its very first paten on heat treated steel. The process we have developed enables steel as thin as 1/2" to 7/8" to have a limited drawl reduction within a .020 tolerance. This allows Rykr Steel to produce forms with unprecedented results in standards. The benefits of this process also carries over into regular bends done with 7/8" or less blanks. We are setting the standard in the industry. Rykr Steel is currently working on 3 methods for improving drawl reduction in Stainless Steel as well as Aluminum. As we enter the new year we join the other companies innovating their industries through research and development.
